
Cats Beat up on Tigres

The Moncton Wildcats won their 3rd straight game tonight beating the Victoriaville Tigres 6-3 at the Moncton Coliseum. The Wildcats received goals from Daniel Pettersson, Olivier D'Aoust, Brandon Gormley with two and Allain Saulnier with two. Phillip Danault with two and Philippe Maillet scored for Victoriaville. Shane Owen recorded the win for the Cats stopping 27/30 shots while Antonio Mastrpietro stopped 14/18 in the losing effort.
The Wildcats came out with a physical aspect to their game, throwing the body at every Tigre that moved. Allain Saulnier got things rolling when he was able to put a rebound over a sprawling Mastropietro at 14:03. Cats doubled their lead with 33 seconds in the period when Gormley blasted a shot home from the point. Shots after one were tied at 9 with the Cats taking a 2-0 advantage into the 1st intermission.
The Cats continued to increase their lead in the second period. Pettersson scored his team leading 10th goal of the season on the powerplay at 11:45. Two minutes later D'Aoust scored his first goal of the season to give the Cats a 4-0 lead. The Tigres got some life when they were awarded a penalty shot with five second left when Simon Jodoin closed his hand on the puck in the crease. Danault came down on Owen all alone made a move and slid the puck between the goaltenders legs to get Victoriaville on the board. Wildcats carried a 13-10 shot advantage in the period.
The Tigres carried the play in the 3rd and cut into the Wildcats lead. Danault made it a 4-2 hockey game at 4:12. However, with the Cats a man down the Saulnier twins got a 2on1 break and Allain finished off a perfect pass from brother Alex. Maillet cut into the Cats lead again at 13:42. With the score at 5-3 and the Victoriaville net empty Gormley sealed the deal scoring his 2nd of the night and 5th of the season. The Tigres held an 11-4 shot advantage in the frame and a 30-26 advantage overall. On the powerplay Moncton went 1 for 3 while Victoriaville was scoreless on their lone opportunity.
The Wildcats are back in action Sunday afternoon at 4pm when they welcome the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles to the Cage. It is game two of the Pink in the Rink weekend, come out and help us reach our goal of $10,000 raised for the Canadian Cancer Foundation.
