
Castellanos Records Four Hits in 9-3 Portland Victory

Reading, Pennsylvania - Pedro Castellanos went 4-for-5, knocking in three runs and extending his hit-streak to 15 games, as the Portland Sea Dogs (26-36) took down the Reading Fightin Phils (27-35) by a score of 9-3 on Saturday at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Sea Dogs brought across the first run in the top of the third against Fightin Phils starter Adam Leverett. Elih Marrero led off the inning with a walk, and Ceddanne Rafaela quickly brought him in with an RBI double to center, giving the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead. Castellanos added on to the lead with a run-scoring base hit to center, bringing in Rafaela, expanding their lead to 2-0.
Reading responded in the bottom of the third against Portland starter Brett Kennedy. Chris Sharpe led off with a walk and came around to score on a Sal Gozzo double, bringing the Fightin Phils within one run, 2-1. Gozzo advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Jack Conley, but Conley was safe at first. Ali Castillo grounded into a double play, bringing in a run and tying the game, 2-2.
The Fightin Phils jumped out to their first lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with Kennedy still on the mound. Jonathan Guzman and Chris Sharpe collected back-to-back singles with one out, putting runners on the corners. Gozzo laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring Guzman, putting Reading in the lead 3-2.
Portland came charging back in the top of the seventh inning against Reading reliever Julian Garcia. Nick Sogard, Marrero, and Christian Koss all walked to load the bases. Castellanos singled, driving in Sogard and Marrero, giving the Sea Dogs a 4-3 lead.
Four more runs touched home plate in the top of the eighth inning for the Sea Dogs. Sogard knocked in the first run with an RBI base hit and Wil Dalton followed with a run-scoring single of his own. Rafaela added to the score with the third RBI hit of the inning, and Dalton capped it off by scoring on a wild pitch, increasing Portland's lead to 8-3.
The Sea Dogs offense kept rolling in the top of the ninth. Castellanos reached on a leadoff double. Hudson Potts made it consecutive doubles, plating Castellanos, widening the gap 9-3. Chase Shugart entered for the ninth inning, keeping Reading scoreless, finishing off a 9-3 victory.
Kennedy (1-2, 4.00 ERA) spun 6.0 innings while allowing three runs on five hits and walking three in his first win of the season. Garcia (0-1, 8.84 ERA) picked up the loss, pitching 2.0 innings in relief, surrendering two runs on one hit, walking three, and striking out one.
The Sea Dogs and Fightin Phils play the finale of a six-game series on Sunday with a 5:15 first pitch. Portland sends LHP Chris Murphy (2-5, 2.60 ERA) to the mound against Reading RHP Noah Skirrow (3-4, 3.23 ERA).
