RubberDucks Lose in Hartford, 4-3, Fall One Game Behind Richmond

Summary

RubberDucks catcher Eric Rodríguez and third baseman Raynel Delgado each homered, but the Yard Goats rallied for a second straight victory, 4-3, at Dunkin' Donuts Park Saturday night. Akron fell one game behind Richmond for first place in the Eastern League Southwest Division with seven games remaining in the first half.

Turning Point

With Akron leading, 3-2, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Hartford right fielder Daniel Montano hit a one-out, game-tying home run to left field off right-hander Luis Oviedo. Shortstop Ezequiel Tovar walked and went to third base on a single by left fielder Jimmy Herron. Oviedo struck out first baseman Michael Toglia but threw a wild pitch to third baseman Aaron Schunk, allowing Tovar to score the go-ahead run.

Mound Presence

Right-hander Tanner Burns worked around two hits in the first inning, but he allowed Hartford to reach the scoreboard in the third inning. He walked second baseman Isaac Collins, who stole second base. Tovar hit a game-tying RBI single, went to second base on Toglia's single, went to third base on Schunk's walk and scored on a wild pitch by right-hander Jared Janczak, who retired the batter to end the inning. Burns was charged with two earned runs on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. Oviedo started the fourth inning and lasted 3 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Right-hander Kyle Marman worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Duck Tales

Rodríguez broke a scoreless tie with his first home run of the season in the third inning off right-hander Michael Baird. Trailing 2-1 in the fourth inning, the RubberDucks rallied to take the lead, as left fielder George Valera walked with one out, and Delgado hit a two-run home run to right-center field for a 3-2 lead.

Notebook

Rodríguez had his first two hits since May 20 in Binghamton and homered for the first time since Sept. 9, 2021, when he hit his first Double-A home run in Richmond...Delgado has hit safely in each of his first four Double-A games...The RubberDucks have homered in six straight games, have hit eight home runs in five games in Hartford, and have 15 home runs in 11 games on the road trip...Game Time: 2:21...Attendance: 6,850.
