
Carter Hart Named WHL Goaltender of the Month

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips, in conjunction with the Western Hockey League, announced today that Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart has been named the Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for February 2017.
The product of Sherwood Park, Alberta went 8-2-0-0 during February with a 1.74 goals against average, .942 save percentage, two shutouts, and 262 saves. He twice came within two minutes or less of two separate shutouts as well during the month, in 3-1 victories over Prince Albert (Feb. 17) and Kamloops (Feb. 25).
The reigning CHL Goaltender of the Year logged shutouts in back-to-back starts at the beginning of the month, making 21 saves on Saturday, February 4, in a 1-0 win versus Vancouver before then stopping 31 pucks on Saturday, February 11, in a 2-0 win at Moose Jaw. In 11 appearances during the month of February, Hart surrendered two goals or fewer in eight complete outings, earning first star honors four times, second star recognition twice and third star accolades twice.
It's the second Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month award for Hart this season, previously capturing the honors for November after going 6-2-1-0 with a 1.11 GAA, .959 SV% and three shutouts. For the week ending November 27, Hart was also named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week as the top netminder in the Canadian Hockey League.
Hart, 18, represented Canada at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, seeing action in seven games including the gold medal finale, going 3-1-0-0 with a 2.38 GAA and .906 SV% in helping his nation to a silver-medal finish.
Hart was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round (48th) of the 2016 NHL Draft and signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the club in October 2016.
Originally selected by the Everett Silvertips in the eighth round (158th) of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, he has suited up for 140 career WHL regular season games, going 80-37-9-8 with a 2.13 GAA, and .920 save percentage. Hart is second on the Silvertips all-time list in wins (80) and shutouts (18).
