
Carrick Departs for World Junior Championships

HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hershey Bears announced today that defenseman Connor Carrick has been assigned to the United States Junior National Team, in preparation for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championships in Malmo, Sweden. The announcement was made by Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.
Carrick, 19, has appeared in 13 games with the Bears, recording four assists and 15 penalty minutes. He picked up his first AHL point on October 26 versus Hartford.
The 5-10, 183-pound native of Orland Park, Illinois, made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals on October 1, recording 10:45 of ice time. In just his second NHL game two days later, he scored his first NHL goal against the Calgary Flames at Verizon Center.
Prior to turning pro, Carrick appeared in 68 games with the OHL's Plymouth Whalers in just his first junior season of 2012-13. Serving as alternate captain, Carrick led all Whalers defensemen with 12 goals, and finished second among his blueline teammates in assists (32) and points (44). He chipped in 18 playoff points, leading his team in postseason assists (16).
In 2012, Carrick pitched in four points (two goals, two assists) in six games on the United States Men's Under-18 Team that captured its fourth consecutive gold medal in Brno, Czech Republic. He played two years on the United States National Development Team, recording 12 points (two goals, 10 assists), 72 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus-three efficency rating in 57 games from 2010-2012.
Carrick was selected by the Capitals in the fifth round (137th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
