CARY, N.C. - Carolina forward Gregory Richardson was named the USL First Division Player of the Week for Week 16 after recording a hat trick in the RailHawks' 4-0 win over Miami on Sunday.

Richardson is the second RailHawk to be named Player of the Week this season and it's the fifth time in club history a RailHawk has earned the honor. It's also the second straight week Richardson has been honored by the USL-1. He was named to the Week 15 Team of the Week after scoring a goal against Vancouver on July 17.

Richardson's hat trick was the third in club history, and first one to be recorded at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Richardson scored his first goal in the 39th minute Sunday. On a counterattack, Joseph Kabwe laid a ball off to Richardson as he ran in from the left flank, and Richardson neatly tucked it into the goal.

He got his second of the afternoon in the 64th minute. He took a pass from Kabwe and made a masterful run with the ball that left a slew of defenders in his wake then hammered a shot into the goal.

Richardson completed his hat trick in the 69th minute on a penalty kick.

In three games since signing with the RailHawks on July 8, Richardson has scored four goals on seven shots in 161 minutes played.

"He's doing well. He's brought confidence and he's taking guys on and he's scoring," said Carolina coach Martin Rennie. "That's a very valuable commodity, scoring four goals in three games is a big deal. He's brought that danger in the final third."
