Defender Hicham Aaboubou Back With Impact
July 28, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Montreal Impact News Release
MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced Tuesday that defender Hicham Aaboubou, a native of Morocco, is back with the team after accepting a two-season contract, pending the league's approval.
Aaboubou, 31, played with the Impact in the 2007 season. He played 11 matches, three as a starter, for a total of 416 minutes of play. In Morocco, Aaboubou had notably played for club Kawkab AC Marrakech (KACM) from 1994 to 2006. He played in the Morocco's first division with this team from 2002 to 2006, scoring six goals in 48 games. In 2008, Aaboubou played with the Carabins of the Université de Montréal.
Aaboubou tried out with the team this season. He played two matches, July 1 against the Haitian National Team, and July 8 against the Syrian National Team.
"Aaboubou will bring depth to our defense," declared Impact technical director Nick De Santis. "It's positive to sign a player who has experience in the USL. We also know that he will fit in well with the team, since he is familiar with our organization. Back in 2007, there was no place for him on the lineup, but today we are happy to have him back."
A reminder that the Montreal Impact faces FC Girondins de Bordeaux, French Ligue 1 champion team, tonight at Saputo Stadium, at 7:30 pm (corussports.com, radio-canada.ca/sports, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990). Excellent tickets are still available through Admission (514-790-1245 / admission.com) or at the Saputo Stadium ticketing office.
