Carolina Mudcats News Release
Chattanooga, TN --- Ryan Bear connected for a tie-breaking home run in the seventh inning as Carolina snapped a three-game losing streak, defeating the Chattanooga Lookouts 7-3 on Friday night at Bell South Park.
Bear's second blast of the series came one half-inning after the Lookouts (6-3) had tied the game against winning pitcher Paul Mildren (W, 2-0) on a two-run shot by Aaron Herr in the last of the sixth.
The Mudcats (4-5) added two more insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI-double by Jonathan Aceves and an infield single from Lee Mitchell.
Mildren won for the second straight start on Carolina's road trip, which will end Saturday night in Chattanooga. Mildren permitted five hits and three runs over six innings, striking out five. He was working on a three-hitter before the Herr home run followed Joey Votto's single with two outs in the sixth which knotted the game.
The Mudcats scored twice in the first against Steve Kelly for an early 2-0 lead on a the first of Mitchell's two doubles and a sacrifice fly from Rex Rundgren.
Chris Dickerson clubbed a solo homer in the second, but the Mudcats picked that run back in the fifth against Kelly on a scratch two-out infield hit from Kevin Randel.
The Mudcats finished with 12 hits, and a season high seven runs.
Carolina can break even on its season-opening 10-game road trip with a win Saturday night. Ben Julianel (0-0, 0.00) will start opposite Chattanooga's Eddy Valdez (0-0, 0.00) at 7:15 PM ET.
