Carolina Mudcats News Release
Zebulon, NC --- The Florida Marlins have made a set of player transactions prior to tonight's Independence Day game with the Tennessee Smokies at Five County Stadium.
OF Daron Roberts has been promoted to Carolina from High-A Jupiter, replacing OF Cameron Maybin who was placed on the disabled list with a back injury. Maybin, placed on the seven-day disabled list on Friday, suffered a back injury swinging at a pitch in Jacksonville last night.
Roberts was hitting .237 with six homers and 33 RBI in 57 games with High-A Jupiter in 2008. Roberts was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2004 in the 12th round from Cal State San Bernadino, reaching High-A Winston-Salem in 2006 and 2007.
The move maintains the Mudcats at the Southern League limit of 24 players.
