Diamond Jaxx lose big

(Jackson, TN) July 4th- The Montgomery Biscuits provided the fireworks on Independence Night as they walloped the Diamond Jaxx 11-3 in game one of a four game series before a near capacity crowd of 5498 fans at Pringles Park.

The Biscuits wasted no time getting on the board as they scored five runs off losing pitcher Doug Fister (5-9) in the first inning. Ronnie Merrill led off game by reaching on a error by Jaxx 2B Jeff Dominguez. Rhyne Hughes was hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second with nobody out. John Jaso gave Montgomery a 1-0 lead with a RBI single to right. Chris Nowak then doubled home Hughes to make it 2-0 Biscuits. Gaby Martinez continued the hot start for the Biscuits with a two run double to right-center, giving Montgomery a 4-0 lead. One out later, J.T. Hall singled in Martinez to cap the five run first inning.

The Biscuits set a season high with seventeen hits in the contest as they moved their second half record to 6-11. Wade Davis picked up the win to improve his record to 8-6 on the season. Davis allowed a run on eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts over six innings of work. Ricardo De los Santos pitched the final three innings to pick up his first save of the season.

Fister allowed ten runs (nine earned) on eleven hits with five strikeouts in five innings of work. Greg Halman had three hits while Erick Monzon drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single in the eighth inning. Jon Nelson and Matt Mangini had two hits each as the Diamond Jaxx had thirteen hits on the night, but were just 2-18 with runners in scoring position.

Game two of the four game series takes place on Saturday night at 7:05 CDT. Right-hander Travis Chick (2-4 4.72) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Montgomery will counter with lefty James Houser (3-2 3.19).
