Brockton, Mass. - Rox manager Chris Carminucci picked up his 100th career regular-season victory as manager of the Brockton squad as his club edged the New Jersey Jackals, 6-5, in a back-and-forth Can-Am League contest at Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Starting in the bottom of the second, the two teams scored runs in six consecutive half-innings, with the Rox tallying the game's first score on C Chris Grossman's two-out solo shot in the second, his second in as many nights. The Jackals responded in the third with CF Adam Godwin's RBI groundout, bringing home C Angel Flores, who had led off the inning with a single.

Brockton (17-11 second half, 44-31 overall) made the score 2-1 in its half of the third, as 3B Derek Kinzler first rapped a one-out single; the next hitter up, CF Chris Valencia, knocked his 20th double of the season, tying him for the league lead and bringing home Kinzler. New Jersey again tied the game the following inning, with 1B Jabe Bergeron's leadoff home run. In the Rox half of the fourth, 1B Melvin Falu led off with a single, moved to second on RF Keith Brachold's groundout, went to third on a balk by Jackals starter Justin Jones, and scored on another groundout, this one by Grossman, giving Brockton a 3-2 lead.

New Jersey (13-16, 32-43) again came back and finally took the lead in the fifth. Bergeron, who has had at least one hit in all 13 Jackals games against the Rox this year, blasted another home one, this one a two-run shot, to make the score 4-3, Jackals.

The two teams took a break from scoring until the bottom of the sixth, when Brockton tied the game with a solo home run by 2B Shawn Williams. New Jersey immediately regained the advantage, 5-4, on 3B Abraham Nunez's one-out RBI single in the seventh.

With the game being tied three other times throughout the evening, it was natural that the Rox would equalize the game once again in the eighth; after DH John Parke walked, moved to second on a walk to Williams, and went to third on a passed ball, he trotted home on Falu's sacrifice fly off of Jackals reliever Edgar Estanga.

Brad Hertzler relieved Rox starter Mike Wlodarczyk and held New Jersey at bay in the top of the ninth, before Grossman led off the bottom half of the frame with a double, went to third on LF Mike Conroy's sacrifice bunt, and scored on a sacrifice fly by SS Dominic Ramos, giving the Rox the win and ending Brockton's two-game losing streak

Wlodarczyk received a no-decision, giving up five runs on 11 hits, fanning nine, in eight innings of work. The nine K's put him first in the Can-Am with 95, one more than teammate Mike Smith. Hertzler (2-1) got the win in relief. For the Jackals, Jones gave up four runs on five hits in seven innings. Estanga (2-7) was tagged with the loss.

Grossman's 2-for-4 evening marked the only Rox player with more than one hit on the night. Flores was 3-for-4 for New Jersey, while Bergeron and LF Kevin Clark each had a pair of base knocks.

Carminucci is the quickest of the three managers (Ed Nottle, Chris Miyake) in Brockton club history to reach one hundred victories, doing so in just 168 regular-season games.

The two teams will meet in the rubber match of the series on Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m., with Jayson Miller (2-2) facing Brockton's Freddy Flores (7-2).
