Springfield Cardinals News Release
Trey Hearne fired eight scoreless innings and drove in a run at the plate, as the Springfield Cardinals shut out the Tulsa Drillers on Thursday night, winning 2-0 at Hammons Field.
Hearne (12-3) scattered five base hits over eight innings, walking just one and striking out three. Not only did Hearne do it on the hill, but he drove in his eighth run of the year, the most in a single season by any Cardinals' pitcher.
Tulsa starter Brandon Durden (7-4) was solid as well, but he lost his shut-out bid in the fourth, when Andrew Brown opened the inning with his 12th homer of the year, a solo shot to left, putting the Redbirds on the board at 1-0.
It remained 1-0 until the seventh, when Hearne stepped to the plate with two outs and ripped a double down the third-base line. Tyler Henley, who reached on a two-out error, scored from first to make it 2-0.
Hearne worked a 1-2-3 eighth, then turned it over to closer Eduardo Sanchez in the ninth. Sanchez, who had misfired on his last three save opportunities, pitched around a one-out single, getting Michael Paulk to ground into a game-ending double-play for his tenth save of the year.
Not only is Hearne now tied for the league-lead with 12 wins, but he lowered his ERA to 2.82, second in the league. He didn't allow a run over his last two starts of the regular season, spanning 15 straight innings.
Chuckie Fick (1-2) will start for Springfield (31-35, 69-67)on Friday, taking on Chaz Roe (7-3) in the series-finale. Game time on Thursday is 7:10pm and gates open at 6:10pm. Don't forget that Friday night is another AM Pyrotechnics Friday Night Fireworks Display. In addition, Lawrence Photo presents Family Photo Night, as we invite you down to the field before the game, for a chance to take pictures with your favorite Springfield Cardinals' player.
