Frisco RoughRiders News Release
Johnny Whittleman's two-run blast propelled Frisco past Corpus Christi as both teams battled inclement weather
Four of the five runs scored in the game came via the home run as Frisco defeated Corpus Christi 3-2 on Thursday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The game was delayed for an hour and 27 minutes in the fourth inning because of inclement weather.
The Hooks found the scoreboard with a run in the third inning on a solo homer by Nick Moresi (6), but Frisco answered in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Dustin Majewski to tie the score at one. After the near hour-and-a-half rain delay, Corpus Christi retook the lead when Collin DeLome hit a solo home run (20), 2-1. However Frisco answered again to take their first lead of the game when Johnny Whittleman hit a two-run home run, giving Frisco the 3-2 advantage.
Neither starter factored into the decision as their outings were shortened by the rain delay. Blake Beavan finished with 3.1 innings of work, allowing one run on six hits, striking out two. He snapped his scoreless inning streak at 16 consecutive games. Beau Jones (3-4) earned the win, allowing one run over 2.2 innings of relief. Beau Vaughan notched his eighth save for Frisco. Hooks' reliever Charlie Weatherby (1-4) suffered the loss, allowing a pair of runs over four innings.
Jonathan Greene led the Frisco offense with a pair of hits and Whittleman led the team with a pair of RBI. Greene also collected his first two stolen bases of the season. Majewski extended his season-best hit streak to 10 consecutive games with his RBI single.
The RoughRiders have won 11 of the past 16 and remain 2.0 games behind Midland in the standings as the RockHounds defeated the Missions on Thursday. Frisco and Corpus Christi will play the final regular season game at Dr Pepper Ballpark on Friday. First pitch will be at 7 p.m. and will include postgame fireworks.
