Springfield Cardinals News Release

Frisco starting pitcher Scott Feldman turned in a gem on Friday night, pitching seven strong innings in a 2-1 win over the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Field.

Feldman (1-0) carried a 2-0 lead and a no-hitter into the seventh inning, until Jon Jay's infield single broke up the "no-no".

Trailing by two with the tying run at the plate and no outs, Jose Martinez ripped a Feldman offering into left-center field. Frisco center fielder Craig Gentry ran it down in the gap, and doubled off Jay, who was already past third base for a double-play. Cody Haerther followed with a double and two batters later, Mark Hamilton delivered an RBI hit to put the Cards on the board at 2-1. Feldman finished what he started though, getting Bryan Anderson to ground out, leaving the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at first base.

The Cards would get no closer, as Frisco's bullpen shut down the Springfield offense over the final two innings. Haerther ripped a single into the right-center field gap with one out in the ninth. Trying to turn it into a double though, he was gunned down at second base on a great throw by Gentry from right-center field. Allen Craig flew out to end it, giving Frisco closer Warner Madrigal his second save in as many nights.

Cards' starter Jaime Garcia was solid in his four innings, of work, allowing two runs on six hits. Frisco got their only runs of the game in the third, as Craig Gentry and Elvis Andrus opened the inning with back-to-back singles. One out later, Chris Davis picked up a two-run single to put Frisco ahead to stay at 2-0.

The Riders only had two base-runners after the fourth inning against the Springfield bullpen. Cory Rauschenberger, Fernando Salas and Luke Gregerson combined to work shut-out ball over the final five frames.

Springfield (0-2) looks to get on track on Saturday afternoon, taking on Frisco (2-0) in the final game of the three-game series. Clayton Mortensen will make his Double-A debut against Frisco's Michael Ballard. Game time on Saturday afternoon is 2:10pm. Gates to Hammons Field will open at 1:10pm.
