Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
The Corpus Christi Hooks scored every inning but two Friday night and defeated the Tulsa Drillers 15-5 at Whataburger Field. The win was the second straight for the Hooks and dropped the Drillers record to 0-2 on the young season. Tulsa starting pitcher Brandon Hynick, making his Double A debut, allowed seven runs on eight hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings of work. Hynick, who was 16-5 last season for Class A Modesto, is rated the number eight prospect in the Colorado Rockies' farm system.
First baseman Rob Crosby led the Corpus Christi attack with three hits and two runs batted in. Drew Sutton also had three hits and collected two walks while scoring a pair of runs.
Catcher Neil Wilson reached base four times for Tulsa, going 3-5 with two singles and a double. Dexter Fowler was also 3-5 with two runs batted in.
Trailing 11-1, the Drillers scored four times in the eighth inning off reliever Evan Englebrook. Corey Wimberly, Fowler and Chris Nelson had RBI singles in the late rally.
Tulsa's 11 hits nearly matched Corpus Christi's 14, but the Hooks took advantage of ten walks surrendered by Drillers pitchers.
Reliever Ryan McKellar collected the win for the Hooks, working three scoreless innings. He allowed only one hit after taking over for starting pitcher Brian Bogusevic to begin the fifth inning.
The game took 3 hours and 25 minutes to complete.
Tulsa and Corpus Christi will conclude their season-opening series Saturday night at Whataburger Field. Ching-Lung Lo will take the mound for the Drillers against Bud Norris of the Hooks. Game time will be 7:05PM.
