
Cards fall to Yanks

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the Cardinals lost to the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees), 7-0, tying the series at 1-1. Jason Jones (2-2) picked up the win for the Yanks as Jason John (1-2) was saddled with the loss for the Cardinals. The win puts the Yankees at 6-18 and the loss drops the Cards to 11-14.
The Cardinals were led offensively by Matt Shepherds 2-for-3 effort. Wes Swackhamer also contributed by going 1-for-4 with a double. Jaymes Torres extended his scoreless innings streak to 2.2 innings. Scott Schweitzer struck out 2 Yankees in the 4th inning, and Jeremy Zick and Austin Tubb combined for 4 innings of scoreless relief to close out the game.
The Cards open a four day, five-game road trip tomorrow with a doubleheader at Staten Island. The club then travels to Aberdeen (Baltimore Orioles) on Saturday for a three-game set. New Jersey returns home on Tuesday night when they open a five-game homestand against the Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins). On Tuesday, Monkey Boy will be at Skylands Park presented by KFC and The Daily Record, and there will be a post-game party at the Hampton House Bar & Grill with Cardinals players, coaches and staff.
