The Springfield Cardinals dropped their second straight game, falling to the Midland RockHounds by a final of 7-3 on Monday night at Hammons Field. The loss for the Cards (2-3) drops them under .500 for the first time this year, while the Hounds (4-1) have now won four straight.

A troubled Springfield pitching staff issued ten more walks on Monday, marking the third time they've had ten or more walks issued on the current home stand.

Steven Hill's second-inning homer put the Cards up 2-0, but it was all RockHounds thereafter.

Springfield starter Tyler Herron (0-1) allowed three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, as the Hounds took a 5-2 advantage.

Chris Carter's RBI single in the eighth made it a 6-2 game.

Springfield got a run in the bottom of the inning, thanks to Brandon Buckman's RBI single, making it 6-3. But after Mike Folli walked to load the bases, Midland reliever Mike Benacka got Tyler Henley to tap back to the mound, ending the threat, as the Cards left the tying runs on base.

Benacka walked Donovan Solano with one out in the ninth, but struck out Brett Wallace and Tony Cruz to end the game and earn his first save of the year.

Midland reliever Angel Garcia (1-0) worked 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win.

Springfield will send Kyle Mura (0-0) to the mound on Tuesday afternoon at 12:10, as he takes on Midland right-hander Graham Godfrey (0-1) in the home stand finale. The Redbirds take a day off on Wednesday and then hit the road for six straight starting Thursday. The Cards will return to Hammons Field on Thursday, April 23rd.
