Springfield Cardinals News Release

The Springfield Cardinals dropped their final game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon, as the Arkansas Travelers picked up a 7-3 win in the final game at Ray Winder Field in Little Rock.

Travs' starter Jesse Smith (8-13) kept the Cards' offense off-balance, while the Travs got out to an early lead against Cards' starter Mike Parisi.

Arkansas got home runs from Eric Rodland and Greg Porter in the first inning, as the Travs got out to an early 5-0 advantage after just one frame.

They added a run in the third on a Porter RBI single, making it 6-0 after three innings against Parisi (9-8).

Springfield got on the board in the fourth, as Travis Hanson's RBI single plated Cody Haerther, making it 6-1.

Gabe Johnson connected on his second home run in as many games, a two-run shot in the sixth, bringing the Cardinals to within three at 6-3. Johnson finished the season with nine home runs.

Arkansas got an insurance run against Kevin Ool in the seventh, as Porter collected his fifth RBI of the day, a run-scoring single to make it 7-3.

The Cards couldn't get anything going against Miguel Gonzalez, as the Travs' reliever shut down Springfield over the final three innings, giving him his fourth save of the year.

Gonzalez worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning, getting Shaun Boyd to ground out to third baseman Devin Day for the final out in Ray Winder Field history. The Travelers will move to Dickey-Stephens Ballpark in North Little Rock in 2007.

Nick Stavinoha collected two hits on Sunday and finished the season with an 11-game hitting streak.

Springfield finishes the year with an overall mark of 66-72 and a second-half mark of 27-43.
