Wichita Wranglers News Release
The Wichita Wranglers scored in each of the first five innings, including a six-run second, to defeat the Tulsa Drillers 12-1 Saturday night. The Wranglers have now taken four straight games from the Drillers in the final series of the regular season. In the four losses, Tulsa has scored only three runs and had only 18 hits.
Mitch Maier got the Wranglers off to a quick start Saturday with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
Seven straight hits off Tulsa starter Jon Asahina produced the 6-run second inning. The big blow was a 3-run homer from Kia Kaaihue.
A solo homer by Adam Donachie made it 9-0 in the third inning, and a 2-run blast by Dee Brown in the fourth increased the margin to 11-0.
The Wranglers closed their scoring with a run in the fifth.
Tulsa broke the shutout with a run in the top of the eighth inning. Jeff Dragecivich and Doug Bernier both walked to begin the inning. A one-out single by Ian Stewart brought Dragecivich home.
Asahina suffered the loss, surrendering all 12 runs on 13 hits in 4.1 innings of work. Jason Burch and Judd Songster combine for 3.2 innings of scoreless relief work.
The two teams will play the final game of the regular season Sunday afternoon in Wichita. Alberto Arias is the scheduled starting pitcher for Tulsa with first pitch set for 2:05PM.
The two teams will take Monday off before beginning the best-of-five North Division Playoff Series Tuesday night in Tulsa. Game time at Drillers Stadium will be 7:05PM with Tulsa's Juan Morillo and Wichita's Zack Greinke the likely starters.
