Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, FL - Palm Beach Cardinals' closer Mark Worrell was named to the post-season Florida State League All-Star team on Tuesday. Worrell was one of two relief pitchers selected to the 17-man team as voted on by the field managers, official scorers, and club sports writers.

Worrell is also currently tied for first place among all minor league relievers for the Rolaids Relief Man Award with Matt Varner of the Fort Wayne Wizards (Midwest League). Given to the top relief pitcher in Minor League Baseball, Rolaids awards three points for each save and two points for each victory in relief, while deducting two points for each loss.

The Florida State League finishes its season on Sunday, while the Midwest League wraps up on Monday. In the event of a tie, the pitcher with the lowest earned run average - currently Worrell - would win the award.

Worrell has earned 100 points this season by compiling 34 saves and a record of 2-3. Varner also has 34 saves and has a record of 4-5.
