
Cardinals Win Again

New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 5-3. The Cardinals improved to 22-33 on the season as the Scrappers fell to 26-30. Jason John (1-1) picked up the win for the Cardinals as Scott Roehl (2-6) took the loss for Mahoning Valley. John pitched six innings allowing three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out six batters. Roberto Batista earned his 11th save of the season for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals scored all five of their runs in the first inning. Casey Grimm drove in the Cardinals first run on a single. Billy Schmitt and Jose Virgil each had an RBI for the Cardinals. Joe Mather added a two run single for the Cardinals in the first inning for a 5-0 lead. The Scrappers scored three runs in the fourth inning for the only other runs of the game.
Grimm led the Cardinals with two singles and a RBI on the night. Brendan Ryan extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the first.
The Cardinals continue their homestand tomorrow against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at 7:15 p.m. Thursday will be Karoke Night at Skylands Park.
