New Jersey Cardinals News Release

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) pounded out a 12-2 victory against the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays). With the win the Cardinals improve to 4-9, and Hudson Valley drops to 8-5. The winner, Derek Roper (1-1), went 6.1 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs, no walks, and five strikeouts. Renegade starter John Dischiavo took the loss to fall to 1win and 2 losses.

Cardinals broke it open early with a pair of three run frames. Five of the first six runs were driven in by Jose Virgil. He began the scoring with a 3-run homerun in the opening stanza, and tagged on a 2-run triple in the second frame. Virgil crossed the plate for the 6th run on a Mark Schleicher fielding error. With the score 6-0, the Cardinals put two more runs across in the 4th inning. Kainoa Obrey drove in those two runs with a single as the lead increased to 8-0. New Jersey plated their final 4 runs in the 6th inning to reach their final mark of 12 runs. Hudson Valley managed runs in successive innings, the 6th and 7th frames. Cardinal Kevin Estrada scored four runs, which ties the New Jersey Cardinals single game record held by numerous players.

The Cardinals will take on the Renegades tomorrow in Hudson Valley. New Jersey returns home on Wednesday, July 2nd, at 7:15 PM against Hudson Valley. Spiderman will make an appearance on Wednesday at Skylands Park. The first 1000 fans will also receive a Mountain Manor Inn Golf Towel.
