
Cardinals sign Dove

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing of the 3rd round draft pick Dennis Dove. Dove, a 64right-handed pitcher, attended Georgia Southern University and is from Ocilla, Georgia. Dennis Dove struck out 118 batters in 93.2 innings on his way to a 7-2 season with GSU. Dove has been assigned to the New Jersey Cardinals (Class A) of the NY-Penn League.
Dove, selected by the Cardinals in the June 2003 First Year Player Draft, played three seasons at GSU. This year he finished 16th in the nation with 11.3 strikeouts per game. In his career Dennis Dove fanned 290 hitters, an average of 97 per campaign.
The Cardinals face the Oneonta Tigers tonight at 7:15 pm at Skylands Park. A fireworks display will entertain the fans after the game. Miller Lite is sponsoring a bat raffle this evening in which twelve fans receive baseball bats and get them autographed by Cardinals players after the game. Saturday brings Brooklyn in for the first doubleheader of the Cardinals young season. It is a split twin bill with games starting at 1 PM and 5 PM. Tickets are sold independently, with a ticket to either game good for a general admission seat at the other.
