Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

AUBURN, NY --- Vermont Expos General Manager C.J. Knudsen may have to sleep in the bed that he made. And that bed could be the dugout at Centennial Field.

With Vermont's record falling to 1-10 overall with an 8-1 loss to the Auburn Doubledays in New York-Penn League action Friday night at Falcon Park, the Expos will need a victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats at Centennial on Saturday night or Knudsen will be spending the night in the Vermont dugout. He'll spend each night in the dugout until the team wins.

On Friday in Auburn, Vito Chiaravolloti went 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles and four RBI to lead an 11-hit Doubledays attack. A.J. Porfirio was 3-for-4 with two RBI as Auburn scored two runs in the first, third and sixth innings for a 7-0 lead.

Vermont finally got on the board with one out in the seventh inning on Luis Blanco's second home run of the season. Blanco's solo home run snapped a 26.2 inning scoreless streak for the Expos dating back to a Brad Ditter two-run homer in the eighth inning of a loss at Lowell on Tuesday night. Vermont has scored four runs over the last 48 innings, three coming on home runs, since scoring four runs in the fifth inning in Sunday's 4-1 win at Centennial.

The loss was Vermont's fifth straight and the Expos were outscored 38-4 during the five-game roadtrip. Vermont has also gone 0-8 on the road in 2003 and have now lost a club record nine straight games on the road dating back to last's season final road game 14-4 loss at Aberdeen.

Clint Everts (1-2) struggled for the second time in two road starts to begin the 2003 season. He allowed four runs on four hits with four walks and just one strikeout in three innings to take the loss, while Joel Noboa had two of the Expos four hits in the game. Marcos Sandoval (2-0) picked up the win for Auburn (9-1), allowing just two hits over five innings.

Vermont opens a five-game homestand with the Tri-City ValleyCats on Saturday night at Centennial Field with Anthony Pearson (0-2) on the mound for the Expos, who will try and pick a win to keep GM C.J. Knudsen from sleeping under the stars.

Speaking of stars, Saturday night is also "A Night at the Movies" as the Expos and Milne Travel will give away a trip for two to Hollywood, while Showtime Video will give away two DVD Players.
