San Antonio, TX - With the series tied at a game apiece, the Cardinals looked to take two of three from the Missions and finish their six-game road trip 5-1.

For the third straight game, the Cardinals jumped out in front of the Missions as Springfield scored six runs with two outs in the top of the 1st inning. After a Matt Carpenter double, Andrew Brwon was hit by a pitch and Aaron Luna drew a walk to load the bases. Xavier Scruggs then lined a single to center field allowing Carpenter and Brown to score and moving runners to second and third on the throw home. Jose Garcia then grounded a ball to third and James Darnell threw the ball wildly to first allowing Luna and Scruggs to score giving the Cardinals a 4-0 lead. Nick Derba would put the final touches on the inning as he blast a two-run homer, his 2nd of the year, to make it a 6-0 advantage.

Nick Additon, who has been one of the hottest pitchers in the Texas League since the All-Star Break, made the start for Springfield and threw a scoreless first inning. In the 2nd, Additon retired the lead off batter before allowing a single to Luis Martinez and a two-run homer to Michael Collins to center field to make the score 6-2. After a triple from Andy Parrino, opposing pitcher Nathan Culp lined a single to center field to score another run to cut the Cardinals lead in half, 6-3. Additon would settle after the Culp single to strike out Blake Tekotte and get Lance Zawadzki to ground out to end the inning.

The Missions got a couple more runs across in the 3rd as Logan Forsythe singled and James Darnell drew a walk before Craig Cooper double to deep center to score both runners to cut the lead to just one run, 6-5. Nick Additon would then get two groundouts and a fly out to keep the Cardinals in front. Additon would be done with his outing after the 3rd tying a season low in innings pitched.

Trey Hearne took over on the mound and loaded the bases in the 4th with two outs on two singles and a walk, but got out of it unscathed as Craig Cooper popped out to end the inning.

Missions' starter Nathan Culp had retired 11 straight batters going into the 5th inning, but with one out, Pete Kozma doubled down the left field line to get the Cardinals going. Matt Carpenter followed with an RBI single to left field to score Kozma to make the score 7-5. After a hit by pitch and a walk to Aaron Luna loaded the bases, Xavier Scruggs doubled to left to score Carpenter and Brown to make it 9-5. With runners at second and third and reliever Matt Buschmann in the game, Buschmann threw a wild pitch scoring Luna to put the Redbirds in front by five runs, 10-5.

After Trey Hearne gave the Cardinals two scoreless innings of relief, Tyler Norrick came in for the 6th and allowed a lead off walk before giving up a two out RBI double to James Darnell. Ramon Delgado would relieve Norrick after the double and strike out Craig Cooper to end the inning with Springfield up 10-6. Delgado would throw a scoreless 7th inning as well to extend his scoreless inning streak to seven innings.

Blake King would throw a scoreless 8th inning and Jason Buursma would retire the Missions in order in the 9th to secure the Cardinals 10-6 win and finish off the six-game road trip 5-1.

The Cardinals gained a game on Tulsa with their win as Tulsa lost 2-1, but NW Arkansas won to keep the Cards trailing by two games in the division. The Springfield lead over Tulsa is one game in the second half. Should the Naturals win the second half, Springfield holds a 9.5 game lead over Tulsa for the next best record in the North Division playoff race.

Springfield will return home on tomorrow to conclude the regular season home schedule with a seven-game homestand against division rivals Northwest Arkansas and Arkansas. The Cardinals will send right hander David Kopp (11-3) to the mound against left hander John Lamb (0-1) for the Naturals. Game time is at 7:10pm at Hammons Field.
