Springfield Cardinals News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Cardinals RHP Kyle Leahy (L, 0-5) allowed only two runs on five hits and three walks over 5.2 innings, but Springfield's offense managed only one run and one hit in a 4-1 loss to the Arkansas Travelers on Thursday night at Hammons Field.

The loss came after back-to-back wins for the Cardinals, who have won two of the first three games of this six-game series and three of their last four against Arkansas.

Travelers starter and former Springfield Cardinal pitcher Ian McKinney (W, 3-0) held Springfield without a hit into the sixth inning until Cardinals LF David Vinsky drove a leadoff single into center. That hit would be the only one of the game for Springfield as McKinney tossed 7.0 shutout innings with 11 strikeouts, walking three.

Springfield cut a 4-0 deficit to 4-1 in the eighth inning when Vinsky scored from second on an error off a ball hit by SS Delvin Perez.

Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the sixth, when back-to-back RBI singles by Travelers C Josh Morgan and 3B Joe Rizzo put Springfield in a 2-0 hole. Arkansas would add runs in the seventh and eighth innings, going ahead 4-0.
