Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, FL (June 15th, 2010) - One night removed from a gut-wrenching 8-5 loss at the hands of the Cardinals, the Miracle were dug into an early 6-0 first inning hole on Tuesday. After battling back all night long, and eventually rallying to tie the game in the eighth inning at 9-9, the Cardinals once again dealt Fort Myers a ninth-inning blow - winning 11-9.

Charlie Cutler was the villain this time - scorching a line drive down the right field line to score two runs with two outs in the ninth inning against Miracle reliever Steve Blevins (1-2) - who took the loss. Palm Beach is now 7-0 against the Miracle this season - winning four games in the ninth inning or later.

The two teams combined to pound out 30 hits in a lengthy 3 hour and 40 minute ballgame. It was the longest nine-inning game the Miracle have endured this season.

Trailing 9-6, the Miracle scored three eighth inning runs to cap off an impressive comeback. With the bases loaded and no outs, Chris Herrmann drew a walk to make it 9-7. After Evan Bigley grounded into a double-play, Brian Dozier came through with a big two-out single to right field to score two runs and tie the game heading into the ninth.

Tyler Norrick (2-1), who picked up the final out of the eighth inning in relief of Joel Pichardo, got the win. David Carpenter notched two outs in the ninth for his seventh save.

Miracle starting pitcher Shooter Hunt (1-2) could not escape a nightmarish first inning in a no-decision. He lasted just two outs into the inning, yielding six runs on six hits. He also walked two batters, hit a batter, and threw a wild pitch.

Even though the pitching for the Miracle was less than spectacular - their offense did have some noteworthy highlights. Joe Benson was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three doubles. Chris Hermann was 2-for-2 with three RBI's, two runs scored, and three walks. Brian Dozier was 2-or-3 with three RBI's and Estarlin De Los Santos was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

The Miracle (26-36) now fall 10 games under .500 for the first time this season. They look to rebound for a win against Palm Beach on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
