Dorn's 7 Strong Innings Not Enough as Jupiter Falls 4-0
June 15, 2010 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
On April 25th, Johnny Dorn and the Hammerheads welcomed Matt Moore and the Charlotte Stone Crabs to Roger Dean Stadium. On that night, Dorn allowed just one earned run in seven innings, while Moore baffled the Jupiter lineup, racking up strikeout after strikeout. On June 15th, it looked like history was repeating itself, except this time Charlotte emerged with the win, 4-0 over Jupiter.
Just as he had back in April, Dorn pitched well enough to deserve the win, going seven strong and striking out five while walking just one. Most of the eight hits he allowed were flares and bloops, finding space to fall in as infielders and outfielders converged in vain.
In the 3rd inning, Anthony Scelfo went from first to third on Isaias Velasquez's flare, scoring on Tim Beckham's sacrifice fly. A passed ball got Velasquez to second base, setting him up to score an unearned run on Stephen Vogt's single.
Those would be the only runs Dorn allowed, but they were all Charlotte would need considering the way Moore pitched. The righty struck out the first four hitters he faced on his way to nine for the night. Ben Lasater's single in the 4th inning was Jupiter's first hit of the game, and one of only four they would get all night.
The Hammerheads will look to the Florida State League's Pitcher of the Week Brad Hand in hopes of salvaging a win Wednesday night. First pitch at Roger Dean Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
