Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
The Palm Beach Cardinals were within a run of the Jupiter Hammerheads on Friday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium heading into the seventh inning. But Jupiter levied an eight-spot on the Cardinals that inning and tacked on an additional pair in the ninth, as Palm Beach fell 11-0.
Zane Mills took the loss for the Cardinals, absorbing five earned runs in six and 1/3 innings pitched. The righty did allow just one walk to go with five strikeouts. Alex Cornwell, Bryan Pope, Nelfri Contreras and Ludwin Jimenez each appeared out of the bullpen.
A night after pounding Jupiter for eight runs, the Cardinals were unable to muster offensive production against Hammerheads starter Chris Mokma. The Michigan native struck out seven Palm Beach batters in as many innings tossed, allowing no runs. For the Cardinals, center fielder Tyler Reichenborn paced the team by reaching base twice.
With the loss, the Beach Birds move to 2-2 on the series with Jupiter. The teams will play next Saturday night at 6 p.m. for RDCS' Star Wars Night. Carlos Guarate is slated as the starting pitcher.
