Springfield Cardinals News Release

Drillers' third baseman Darin Holcomb's fourth hit of the game helped to push across the winning run on Monday night, as the Tulsa Drillers outlasted the Springfield Cardinals in 13 innings, defeating the Redbirds by a final of 5-4 at Drillers Stadium.

With runners at first and second and one out, Holcomb ripped an 0-1 pitch to left fielder Antone DeJesus on two hops. DeJesus charged in anticipation of a throw to the plate, but mishandled the ball in left field. Rex Rundgren, who was initially held at third base by Drillers' Manager Ron Gideon, was then waved home with the winning run, as the Drillers ended the four hour and nine minute marathon.

The Cards used an Andrew Brown two-run blast, his second, to take an early lead against Tulsa starter Chaz Roe.

Springfield built a 4-0 advantage before the Drillers rallied with two in the fifth and two more in the sixth against Springfield starter Ryan Kulik.

Springfield's bullpen was solid, pitching 7 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, before Eddie Degerman (2-2) was tagged with what was ruled an unearned run in the 13th.

Tulsa reliever Tommy Baumgartner (1-1) earned the win with three scoreless frames of relief.

Tyler Henley led the Cards with three hits, also driving in his 50th RBI of the year.
