Tulsa Drillers News Release

Darin Holcomb's walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning led the Tulsa Drillers past the Springfield Cardinals 5-4 Monday night at Drillers Stadium. Tulsa trailed 4-0 after the top of the fifth, but rallied with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings before Holcomb's fourth hit of the night gave the Drillers their fourth extra inning victory of the season.

The rally in the 13th began when Tulsa pitcher Tommy Baumgarder drew a leadoff walk from Springfield reliever Eddie Degerman, and Rex Rundgren followed with a single. With Anthony Jackson attempting a sacrifice bunt, Baumgarder was picked off of second by the catcher Tony Cruz, but Rundgren advanced to second on the play. After Jackson walked, Holcomb's single to left plated Rundgren with the game-winning run.

The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Tyler Henley singled before Andrew Brown belted his second home run of the season into the left field netting.

Springfield extended their lead to 3-0 in the third. Jim Rapoport led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a groundout. Steven Hill hit a fly ball to right-center field that should have ended the inning, but centerfielder Jackson dropped the fly, allowing Rapoport to score a costly run.

The Cards added one more run in the fifth after Hill led off the inning with a single and scored on a double by Henley.

Tulsa cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Michael McKenry drew a lead off walk, and Cole Garner singled to put runners at the first and second with no outs. Ryan Harvey then doubled, scoring McKenry, and Danny Sandoval followed with a single that plated Garner.

The Drillers tied the game in the sixth after Holcomb doubled into the left field corner and moved to third on a single by Jeff Kindel. Daniel Mayora's single plated Holcomb, while the runners advanced to second and third on a fielding error by centerfielder Rapoport. Ryan Harvey then struck out swinging on a ball in the dirt that rolled all the way to the backstop. The wild pitch allowed Kindel to race in from third to tie the game at 4-4.

It remained tied until Holcomb's walk-off hit seven innings later.

Baumgardner worked three scoreless innings to gain the win and even his season record at 1-1. With the loss, Degerman fell to 2-2.

The Drillers will continue their series with the Cardinals Tuesday night. Keith Weiser (5-9, 4.57) will take the mound for the Tulsa against Springfield's Scott Gorgen (1-1, 6.75 ERA) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM at Drillers Stadium.
