
Cardinals Drop One to Ironbirds

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) lost 6-3 in to the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles). The Cardinals fall to 17-24 with the loss as the Ironbirds improve to 20-21. Dave Williamson (0-2) took the loss for the Cardinals as Aberdeens Carlos Torres (2-0) picked up the win. Martin Berube earned his second save of the season for the Ironbirds.
The Cardinals scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead. Brendan Ryan led of the fourth for the Cardinals with a single. Ryan then advanced to second base on a groundball error hit by Melvin Falu. Jose Virgil moved Ryan to third base on a flyball to rightfield. Daylon Monette then hit a sacrifice fly to score Ryan. In the sixth inning (Rally Cow Inning), the Cardinals scored two runs to tie the score at 3-3. Ryan led off the sixth with a double. Then Monette doubled with two outs to score Ryan again. Monette later scored on an rbi-single by Casey Grimm. The Ironbirds scored two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth for the 6-3 victory. Ryan led the Cardinals with three hits and two runs scored.
The Cardinals have Tuesday, July 29th off before taking on the Williamsport Crosscutters on Wednesday in Williamsport. The next Cardinals home game will be Monday, August 4th at 7:15 against the Hudson Valley Renegades. There will be a batting helmet giveaway for the first 1,000 kids under fifteen on Monday courtesy of Reds Deli, InterNet Café, Pepsi, Cunico Chiropractic, and Daily Record.
