Iowa Cubs News Release

CHICAGO - The Chicago Cubs today named Iowa Cubs catcher Victor Caratini the organization's minor league player of the month for May.

Caratini, 23, hit .366 (30-for-82) in 24 May games, adding six doubles, one triple, three home runs and 17 RBI. The slugger added eight multi-hit games, including back-to-back four-hit games May 8 and 9 against Memphis. His .366 average ranked eighth in the Pacific Coast League in the month.

In his first Triple-A season, Caratini is seventh in the PCL with a .339 average (59-for-174) and is second in the Cubs system with 34 RBI. In 48 games with Iowa, the catcher and first baseman has 13 doubles, two triples and five home runs.

The Braves selected the Puerto Rican native in the second round of the 2013 draft out of Miami Dade Junior College. He was traded to the Cubs at the deadline in 2014 for IF Emilio Bonifacio, LHP James Russell and cash. Caratini enjoyed a breakout season for Double-A Tennessee in 2016, finishing second in the Southern League in on-base percentage (.375) while ranking fifth in batting (.291).

Caratini is the second consecutive I-Cub to take home the Cubs minor league player of the month award as Jeimer Candelario claimed the honor in April.
