Lake County Captains News Release


Augusta, GA- Blake Allen and Jim Ed Warden successfully protected the lead Tuesday, as the Lake County Captains slipped by the Augusta GreenJackets 5-3 at Olmstead Stadium.

The Captains seized the lead with three runs in the seventh inning, taking a 5-2 lead. Matt Whitney scored from first base when Micah Schilling's sacrifice bunt was thrown away for an error by Augusta third baseman Scott White. Schilling ended up at third, and scored when Chris Farley's next pitch was wild. Luis Cotto followed with a single, stole second, went to third on a single by Ricardo Rojas and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Goleski to make it 5-2.

Allen (5-3) came on in the fifth and worked 3 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits and one unearned run. He did not issue a walk and struck out three. Warden came on in the ninth and worked a perfect inning to earn his 12th save in 15 chances.

The Captains (24-26, 60-60) took an early 2-0 lead in the second on RBI's by Schilling and Cotto. The GreenJackets (24-27, 55-66) tied it with two in the fifth against Captains starter Ed Mujica.

The Captains will finish the road trip with game four against Augusta on Wednesday evening at 7:15 (WELW AM 1330). After an off-day Thursday, the Captains will open a five-game homestand on Friday evening at 7:05 at Eastlake Ballpark.
