Charleston RiverDogs News Release
(Charleston, SC)- If the season ended today, the Charleston RiverDogs would make the playoffs for the first time in 16 years.
Before any "Sweet 16" celebration can begin, however, the RiverDogs must face the Asheville Tourists, also in contention for the second half division crown. The four-game series scheduled Thursday through Sunday at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park should provide a clear indication of both teams playoff chances.
The homestand begins Thursday, August 19 with Military Appreciation Night. Members of the armed forces receive a general admission ticket by presenting a valid Military ID and a voucher for the evening (available on local military bases) at the Riley Park Box Office. There will be a flyover and presentation of the colors before the 7:05 p.m. game. The night marks a Wild Wing Café Thirsty Thursday, with discount food and beverage specials available at the Ashley View Pub and Grill, located on the third base side of the stadium.
The RiverDogs will salute the Athens Summer Games with their own "Big Fat Greek Olympics" on Friday, August 20. Between-inning contests will feature a variety of unique Olympic events, from the "Sumo Shot Put" to "Charlie the RiverDog's Floor Exercise." After the 7:05 p.m. game, Sprint Friday Night Fireworks will illuminate the sky.
O'Charley's presents Backpack Giveaway Night on Saturday, August 21. The first 1,000 kids 12 and under through the Riley Park gates will receive the coveted giveaway item. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with the game scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
Sunday, August 22 marks the final Dog Day Afternoon of the season. Fans are invited to bring their pups to the ballpark to enjoy the 2:05 p.m. game between the RiverDogs and Tourists. Humans pay the price of admission; canines get in free. Before the game, families are invited to play catch on the field. Afterwards, kids can run the bases and get autographs from their favorite RiverDogs as part of a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Family Sunday.
Tickets to the upcoming homestand and all RiverDogs home games are available at the Riley Park Box Office, by phone at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) and online at etix.com and riverdogs.com.
