
Captains Rally in the Ninth for Sweep

(Lansing, MI) -The Lake County Captains got two homeruns from Dorssys Paulino in his first two at bats but still had to rally late to earn an 8-5 win over the Lansing Lugnuts The Captains scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning and then held on in the bottom half of the inning to earn a two game sweep over the Lugnuts at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Captains took an early lead in the top of the second inning. With two outs Dorssys Paulino blasted a solo homerun over the back wall of the stadium in leftfield and onto the street behind for a 1-0 Captains lead.
Lansing would take advantage of a Captains' error to tie the score with an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning. They would grab the lead with four runs in the third. Again the Lugnuts would be aided by a Captains' error as they scored four runs. The big blow was a three run homerun from Jason Leblebijian.
The Captains would cut the deficit to two in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs Taylor Murphy would single to extend the inning. Paulino would then connect on his second homerun of the game, a two run shot to leftfield to cut the score to 5-3.
Lake County tied the game with two runs in the top half of the sixth inning. With two outs it was Murphy once again extending the inning with a base hit. Paulino would then walk. Yonathan Mendoza followed with an RBI single to score Murphy. After stealing third, Paulino would score on Martin Cervenka's RBI single to tie the game at 5.
The game would stay tied until the top of the ninth inning. Mendoza started the inning by drawing a walk. With one out Ordomar Valdez would single to put runners at first and second. Mendoza would move to third on a fly out by Greg Allen. The Captains would then pull off a double steal sending Valdez to second and scoring Mendoza for the eventual winning run. Valdez would then also score when Lugnuts' centerfielder D.J. Davis could not catch Bobby Ison's pop up in short centerfield. Ison himself would score when Anthony Santander doubled off the top of the wall in left. In total the Captains would score three runs in the inning.
Thomas Pannone got a no decision after going. 4.0 innings. He allowed 5 runs, 3 earned, on 4 hits. Pannone walked 1 and struck out 4. Jordan Carter would then go 2.0 innings in relief. He allowed 2 hits and no runs. He walked 1 and struck out 1. Caleb Hamrick (3-1) earned the win with 2.0 innings of relief. He allowed just 1 hit and struck out 1. Cameron Hill (6) earned the save with 1.0 inning of relief. Hill allowed 2 hits and did not walk or strike out a batter.
The Captains will now head to West Michigan to start a two game series on Monday night with Jordan Milbrath on the mound. First pitch is at 7:00pm and can be heard on 1330AM WINT.
