Kane County Cougars News Release

CLINTON, Iowa- Sunday's contest was not as close as the last nine games for the Kane County Cougars (10-1, 46-33) but the score ended in similar fashion as the Cougars won their 10th straight ballgame with a 7-1 win over the Clinton LumberKings (3-8, 29-51).

Markus Solbach (8-2) continued his own winning streak as the Cougar starter picked up his seventh consecutive victory with eight innings of one-run baseball. The German right-hander has not lost a game in over two months and became just the second Cougar in 2015 to work eight innings.

Solbach was quickly given an advantage as the offense piled three runs in the opening frame off of Clinton's starter Zach Littell (2-4). Henry Castillo kept the first inning alive with a two-run triple for a Cougar lead. The two-runs would have been fine for the Cougars, but Castillo scored on the second Clinton error and the offense combined for four more runs.

Elvin Soto kicked off the second inning with a three-bagger, before scoring on Colin Bray's base hit. In the fourth, the Cougars loaded the bases and grabbed run-scoring plays from Cody Regis, Marty Herum and Castillo.

Solbach cruised through the first seven innings only allowing one base runner to scoring position. Clinton found the scoreboard in the starter's final inning on Chris Mariscal's RBI knock.

Tom Jameson sealed the win with a scoreless ninth.

The Cougars continue on the road by taking on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Appleton, Wisconsin. Wei-Chieh Huang (3-1, 1.51) resets the Cougars rotation against Wisconsin's Zach Hirsch (2-4, 2.98). First pitch from Fox Cities Stadium is at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on AM 1280 WBIG and kccougars.com begins at 6:50 p.m.
