Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.-Fort Wayne's Michael Gettys collected three hits and scored three runs to lead the TinCaps to a 5-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Sunday afternoon. The two clubs split the two games in Fort Wayne.

Fort Wayne pitchers limited the Dragons to only four hits in the game and just one after the third inning. TinCaps pitchers also walked only two, giving the Dragons limited opportunities to mount scoring threats. Fort Wayne pitchers retired 16 straight Dragons batters after Jimmy Pickens' bunt single with one out in the third until Cory Thompson's two-out single in the eighth.

Fort Wayne scored two runs in the first inning, taking advantage of two Dragons errors, to build an early lead. The Dragons answered with two runs in the second to tie the game. Gavin LaValley walked to start the Dragons rally and went to second on a wild pitch. One out later, Paul Kronenfeld doubled to right field to bring in LaValley. Kronenfeld scored on Argenis Aldazoro's single to right to tie the game at 2-2.

But Fort Wayne scored single runs in the third, seventh, and eighth to earn the victory. The Dragons committed five errors to match a season high. Two of the Fort Wayne runs were unearned on the day.

Dragons starting pitcher Mark Armstrong (3-3) suffered the loss in his second start since returning from the disabled list with a sore elbow. Armstrong worked three innings and allowed six hits and three runs with no walks or strikeouts. Jake Paulson had a strong day in relief of Armstrong, working five innings. He allowed two unearned runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

The Dragons (5-6 in the second half; 44-37 overall) travel to Bowling Green, Kentucky to open a series with the Bowling Green Hot Rods (5-6, 42-39) on Monday at 8:05 p.m. EDT. Wyatt Strahan (5-5, 3.00) will start for the Dragons against Bowling Green's Chris Pike (7-2, 3.59). The Dragons will also play at Bowling Green on Tuesday before returning home on Wednesday to host the Hot Rods at Fifth Third Field.

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.

Notes: The Dragons struggles in day games on the road continued. Over the 2014-'15 seasons, the Dragons have gone 10-21 in road day games, including 4-10 this season.
