AMARILLO, TX--The Captains and Sox combined for 17 runs in the rubber game of the Captains first road series of the year, with Shreveport-Bossier overcoming a three-run deficit to beat Amarillo 9-8. The Sunday evening ballgame, played in front of 6,142 fans who received free admission to Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium were treated to a wild ball game that saw five different lead changes.

Amarillo got on the board in the last of the first with two runs off Captains starter Osvaldo Rodriguez. Matthew Tucker doubled and scored on a Cyle Hankerd ground out. Then Lee Cruz walked and would score on an error by Captains catcher Brian Peterson who tried to pick off Sox catcher Benji Johnson at first base but his threw went into right field.

Shreveport-Bossier tied it in the second off Sox starter Travis Lawler. Andres Rodriguez and Uriak Marquez led off the inning with walks and would score on a fielding error by shortstop Jason White.

Amarillo re-took the lead in the third when the first four batters of the inning reached on base hits. White and Adam de la Garza had RBI singles followed by a Matthew Tucker sacrifice fly to make it 5-2 Amarillo. But the Captains bats would come alive again in the third with three runs on three hits, including RBI singles for Rodriguez and Marquez and an RBI fielder's choice for Bryan Fricther.

In the last of the third, Tim Alberts would triple and score on a Chris Nash single. Jason White singled and then scored on a de la Garza base hit to again give Amarillo the lead.

Marquez would again provide the offensive spark for the Captains in the fifth with a towering two-run homer to right centerfield to tie the game at seven. It was Marquez's team-leading third home run of the year and highlighted a 3-5 night at the plate with three RBIs for the Captains second baseman.

The Captains took the lead in the sixth on a Robert Perry sacrifice fly but Amarillo would again tie it in the bottom of the frame on a Matthew Tucker RBI ground out scoring White. The Sox no. 9 hitter, White was 3-4 with three runs scored.

Shreveport-Bossier would go ahead for good in the eighth. Alex Cowert hit a one-out triple for his second extra base hit of the game. Joey Gathright then grounded to the first baseman Nash who threw home. Cowart slid around the catcher Johnson's tag. Amarillo manager John Harris came out to argue the call with home plate umpire Joe Stegner and was ejected from the game.

Dan Griffin earned his third save for the Captains, pitching a scoreless ninth. After retiring the first two batters he faced on two pitches, Griffin would walk third baseman Van Pope. The next batter Tim Alberts hit a ground ball to third that bounced under the glove of Mike Provencher to put men on the corners with two outs. However, Griffin would strike out Nash to preserve the Captains win.

Jake McCarter (2-0) threw two innings, allowing two hits and won run to get the win. Sox reliever Austin Chambliss (0-1) pitched three innings of relief, giving up the go-ahead run in the eighth for the loss.
