Eastlake, OH)--Chris De La Cruz hit a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in Mike Conroy with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday, lifting the Captains to a 9-8 win over Kannapolis at Classic Park.
The RBI by De La Cruz, his 15th of the year, completed a two-run rally against Kannapolis reliever Paul Moviel (0-4).
Trailing 8-7 entering their final at-bat, the Captains got a lead-off double from Mike Butia, his third double of the game. Max Ramirez followed with a single, moving Butia to third. Ramirez took second on the throw home, so with first base open, the Intimidators intentionally walked Josh Noviskey to load the bases. While P.J. Hiser was at the plate, a passed ball allowed Butia to score the tying run.
Matt Davis (2-7) picked up the win with a scoreless top of the ninth.
Hiser was then walked to again loaded the bases. Matt Fornasiere lined out to left for the first out, but De La Cruz ended the game with his sacrifice fly.
Hiser was 4-4 with a pair of doubles, his sixth homer, and a triple. He lost his chance at the cycle when he was intentionally walked in the ninth.
The Captains (20-15) trailed 3-0 early but rallied for six runs in the fourth on a two-run homer by Ramirez and a grand slam by Juan Valdes.
The Intimidators (12-23) came back with four in the seventh against Julio Pinto to retake the lead 8-7.
The series and homestand finale is Monday night at 7:05. It will be "Buck Night" at Classic Park. For tickets, call 440-954-WINS.
