
Braves boil Crawdads 7-5

Rome, GA -The Rome Braves rebounded from their loss last night to defeat the Hickory Crawdads 7-5 in front of 2,591 fans at State Mutual Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Crawdads struck first in the top of the first inning as Cameron Blair led off the game with a single and Shelby Ford followed with a walk to put runners on first and second. Both runners would advance ninety feet on a groundout and Hickory would score their first run of the game as Mike McCuistion delivered a two out RBI single that scored Blair giving Hickory an early 1-0 advantage.
The Crawdads would add to their lead in the top half of the third as Brad Corley delivered a two out two RBI single up the middle scoring Blair who reached on a single and McCutchen who was issued a free pass by Rome starter Dustin Evans adding to the Crawdads lead 3-0. Rome would answer back in their half of the third as Blair misfired a throw to first on an Elvis Andrus grounder that enabled Jose Camarena and Ovandy Suero to cross the plate cutting the Braves deficit to 3-2.
Rome would break the game open in the bottom of the sixth with a four run inning highlighted by Josh Morris' two RBI double giving the Braves a 6-3 lead after six. Rome would add a single insurance run in the bottom of the seventh as Elvis Andrus left the building with his second home run of the year extending the Braves lead 7-2. The Crawdads would make things interesting with two runs in the ninth, but the effort was all for not as the Braves squashed the rally attempt and took the game 7-5.
Rome starter Dustin Evans (2-0) picked up the win for the Braves tossing six strong innings allowing three runs only one of which was earned. Brad Lincoln (1-2) was charged with the loss for the Crawdads going five and a third innings allowing nine hits and three earned runs.
Roster Moves: Robert Marcial has been sent to Myrtle Beach of the Carolina League and Rome receives catcher Victor Hernandez from extended spring training in Orlando. Marcial was hitting .218 in limited play.
