Captain Mark Hinz Marking His Return to Ice Flyers
August 12, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
As a solid step towards building a championship team for the 2011-2012 campaign, the Pensacola Ice Flyers have resigned their captain and leader, Mark Hinz.
The 27-year-old who calls Waldheim, Saskatchewan, Canada home is returning for his 3rd season on the coast, and he and his wife, Michelle, could not be happier of their return. "I am really excited to get back down there and kickoff of the season, as is Michelle. It has become a second home for us. We simply love the city and love the fans of Pensacola," Hinz added.
During the 2010-2011 season, Hinz led the Ice Flyers' defensemen in scoring with 6 goals and 25 assists for 31 points in 51 games. This also placed him 6th overall in the SPHL among defensemen. When Hinz returned to Pensacola last season, there was no hesitation from Coach Todd Gordon on who should wear the captain "C". And once again this season, Hinz will have that leadership noted on the front of his Ice Flyers' jersey.
"We are very excited to have Mark back with us for the 2011-2012 season. He is a great leader not only in the locker room, but also in the community," Gordon said. Hinz will again step up to play in important segments of each game, and be an integral part of the Ice Flyers' commitment to their goals for this season and to the community off the ice. Coach Gordon also added, "He has a great understanding of myself and the direction we are trying to get to, which is to bring a championship to Pensacola."
Hinz replied, "Last season, we were on the right track. But this season is going to be different. The only reason that I am coming back to Pensacola is to win a championship, and Coach Gordon is setting up this year's team to do exactly that."
Mark and his wife Michelle plan to make the long trek from Canada to Pensacola near the middle of September. The Ice Flyers welcome back both of them to the coast, and are looking forward to enjoying a memorable season with them.
"It is a first class organization and a first class city. We are more than thrilled to return and cannot wait to get to Pensacola," Hinz added.
Remember Ice Flyers 2011-2012 season tickets are now on sale starting at just $16.80 per month with a 5 month payment plan. Packages come in a 28 game, 14 game or 7 game flex pack.
