Caps Travel to Face USNTDP
February 2, 2023 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
The Capitols travel to Plymouth, Michigan, to face off against the US National Team Development Program's U-17's and U-18's team. This is the team's last trip to USA Hockey Arena of the season with the first trip resulting in a split with the U-17's in early December. Overall this season, the Caps are 1-2-0-0 against USNTDP with the other loss coming in early January against the U-18's.
Madison enters the weekend with a 9-25-1-1 record on the season, which puts the team in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The team has been better than their record as of late, though, picking up wins in two of their last four games and playing in close games in all but one game since mid-January.
It's a big week for the captains of the Capitols. If Matt McGroarty is able to suit up in both Thursday's game against the U-18's and Friday's game against the U-17's, he will have played in 100 consecutive USHL regular season games, 114 including playoffs. This is a rare feat in today's USHL with only 32 players playing in all 62 games last season for their respective teams. This season, the total average for players playing in all games for their respective teams this season is 4.53 players per team, which is only about a third of the games that McGroarty would have played consecutively.
The other 'C' for the Caps, Nick Wallace, was recognized as the league's Defenseman of the Week for his efforts this past weekend. In the two-game series against Green Bay, he was able to record three points, one goal and two assists, while also amassing a +1 rating on the weekend.
Puck drop on Thursday against the U-18's is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET, which will be followed by the same time puck drop on Friday against the U-17's. Video streaming this week will be on usahockeyntdp.com/watch. Follow along on our social medias @madcapshockey!
