Caps Take Down Muskegon 3-1 to Force Series Split

Madison Capitols News Release
The Capitols returned to the ice for the first time since last Friday on Saturday night, well at least the logo on the chest did after a rebrand of one day to the Muskies. Madison fell on Friday night to Muskegon and looked to force a series split against their Michigan foes.
Back in their navy uniforms, the Capitols were able to find the back of the net for the lone goal of the first period. The goal came late in the period as the Caps one shot advantage resulted in a one goal advantage thanks to a shot from the stick of Andrew Kuzma. For Kuzma, it was his fifth of the season, which came on a short side low glove shot.
Muskegon found the evening tally fairly quickly in the second period, but Madison would keep the offensive pressure on in the middle frame of regulation. That pressure would turn into an odd-man rush with Oliver Flynn leading the way. Although Flynn had Tyler Grahme hustling down the middle of the ice, he saw a defender tied to Grahme. Luckily for Madison, Flynn had a second option in Ethan Elias who was trailing behind the play who buried his second of the season to make it 2-1 Caps at intermission number two.
In the third, both teams continued to pile on in the offensive zone but Mason Kucenski stood tall in net to keep Madison in the lead, recording 35 saves on the night. Down to the wire, Muskegon pulled their goalie. The Capitols first attempt at the vacant cage was successful with Jordan Gudridge finding his first USHL goal from the defensive zone. That put the cherry on top for the Caps coming home with a 3-1 victory.
Madison improves to 10-28-1-1 on the season ahead of a second consecutive weekend home series. Next weekend, the Capitols play host to the Omaha Lancers. On Friday, it's $1 Beer Night with a big crowd expected, which will be followed by the team's annual Be The Miracle Night benefiting the Bob Suter Memorial Foundation. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 on both Friday and Saturday night. You can find your tickets at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
