Madison Capitols News Release

The Madison Capitols sweep the Youngstown Phantoms 2-0 in Round 1 with a 5-3 win tonight and advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Chicago Steel.

The Caps rattled off four goals in the 3rd period to down the Phantoms in their Game 2 road contest tonight. Forwards Jake Dunlap, Jack Musa and Quinn Finley all found the back of the net in the final 20 minutes of regulation to push Madison to the next round.

"I'm very proud of our team," Caps bench boss Tommy Upton said. "This a great group of guys who sacrifice for one another. Our leadership really showed this series."

The Caps battled back from a 1-0 deficit after the opening 20 minutes. Jake Dunlap made a speedy move to split a pair of Phantom blueliners and get a shot on net that was cleaned up by veteran forward Reid Pabich. The Capitols wouldn't trail again for the rest of the night following the Pabich equalizer.

1:13 into the 3rd period, Dunlap blasted home a loose puck right off a Madison faceoff win to put the Caps up 2-1. 3:34 later, forward Jack Musa found the back of the net after he rifled a wrist shot from the right side hashmarks to make it 3-1. The Phantoms would pull within one with 3:17 to play in regulation but it would be too late. Forwards Quinn Finley each tallied an empty net goal to secure the victory and a spot in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The Caps advance to play a familiar opponent in the Chicago Steel for a best-of-3 series. Game 1 will be Saturday night at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena while Games 2 and 3 will be on the road at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
