
'Caps Roster Sees More Changes; Mejia Down, Romprey Up

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Detroit Tigers announced today, that infielder Gilberto Mejia will be sent to extended spring training while infielder Ed Romprey will be promoted to West Michigan.
After spending most of the 2002 season on the disabled list, Mejia opened 2003 with the Whitecaps as their opening day second baseman. The 20-year-old infielder is batting .194 (12-for-62) with one home run and four RBI.
To take Mejia's place on the roster, Ed Romprey comes to the Whitecaps from extended spring training in Lakeland. Last season with Oneonta, Short-Season A affiliate, Romprey hit .259 with 21 RBI. The 23-year-old shortstop also had an eight-game hitting streak from June 28 to July 8. Romprey will join the team Friday evening in Cedar Rapids.
