
Yankees Lose at Wisconsin

APPLETON, Wis. â The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers struck early and rolled to an 11-2 victory over the visiting Battle Creek Yankees in a Midwest League baseball game Friday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Game 2 of the four-game series is Saturday afternoon.
The Rattlers raced to a 5-0 lead after three innings â scoring one run in the first, three in the second and one in the third. Rene Rivera ripped a two-run homer and Matt Hagen added a solo shot for the second-inning runs.
The Yankees scored in the sixth to make it 5-1 â as close as they would get the rest of the way. Willie Vasquez led off with a double, and scored one out later when Joaquin Arias laced an infield single and the throw to first was wild. Jayson Drobiak followed with a single, but two straight fielder's choice plays ended the inning.
Wisconsin scored four runs with two outs in the sixth to take a 9-1 lead.
Rudy Guillen led off the seventh for the Yankees with a double, stole third and scored on a fielder's choice to make it 9-2. Battle Creek loaded the bases with two outs, but an infield grounder ended the inning.
The Rattlers pushed across a pair of runs in the seventh for an 11-2 lead.
The Yankees managed just two hits â a two-out double by Drobiak in the first and a lead-off single by Tommy Rojas in the third â in the first five innings.
Battle Creek starter Jose Garcia (3-2) gave up five runs in three innings. Relievers Josh Neitz and Chase Wright finished the game for the Yankees.
Brandon Harmsen (1-1) will start for the Yankees in Game 2, set for 2:05 p.m. EDT Saturday.
