Madison Capitols News Release
The Madison Capitols head into the holiday break at 13-11-2 after falling in tonight's tight series finale 4-3 to the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
The Caps jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 12:53 of the 1st period when captain Casey Severo fed a great pass out front to defenseman Luke Mittelstadt who shelfed it for his eighth goal of the season. Dubuque would go on to score two goals on the power play to go up 2-1 over the Caps. With 5.2 seconds in the 1st period, a loose puck found its way on to the stick of blueliner Nick Wallace who ripped home his first goal of the season to equalize things at two apiece.
The loan goal of the second period came from Casey Severo. The Capitols captain made a great hustle play in the neutral zone to create a turnover to get the puck into the attacking zone. Severo corralled a loose puck in the offensive end, snuck out front and buried the go-ahead goal with 3:42 left in the 2nd period.
"I liked our response tonight after last night," Caps head coach Tom Upton said. "I liked our compete as well and I thought that game could have gone either way between two good hockey teams."
Dubuque scored twice in the 3rd period to take a 4-3 lead and that is where things would remain until the final buzzer. The Caps will return to action December 30th when they take on the Chicago Steel.
