Capitols Tender Michigan Defenseman Chatfield

Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols have announced the tendering of 17-year-old defenseman Jalen Chatfield.

A 6-foot tall, 175-pound right-handed shot, Chatfield played the 2013-14 season with the Belle Tire Under-18 Midget team based out of Detroit, Mich. Chatfield registered 11 goals, including a team-best four game-winning goals, in addition to 15 assists last season.

A native of Ypsilanti, Mich., Chatfield becomes the first defenseman to receive a tender from the Capitols.

"Jalen is an elite skating defenseman with good puck skills," said Capitols head coach Steve Miller. "His ability to skate, combined with his puck skills and high hockey IQ allows him to provide offense from the back end. He sees the ice extremely well and makes good puck decisions."

"Defensively, he uses his good speed and mobility to shut down an attack quickly, taking away an opponent's time and space."

Chatfield joins previously tendered forwards Ryan Lohin (Chadds Ford, Pa.) and Sebastian Fuchs (Lidingo, Sweden) as inaugural members of the Capitols for the 2014-15 season.
