June 27, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI- For the first time in team history, a Madison Capitols goaltender has been selected in the NHL Draft, as Garrett Metcalf (Salt Lake City, Utah) was chosen by the Anaheim Ducks in the sixth round with the 179th overall pick on Saturday.
The 19-year-old Metcalf, who stands at 6-foot-3, played in 33 games in the Capitols' inaugural season in 2014-15. He registered 10 victories, including a shutout over the Anderson Cup champion Youngstown Phantoms on Jan. 16, while posting a .911 save percentage.
Metcalf has committed to play his college hockey for the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. He will return to the Capitols for the 2015-16 season.
The Capitols acquired two NHL Draft picks, Tyler Nanne (NYR) and Miguel Fidler (FLA), in 2014-15 via trade, but Metcalf becomes the first original Capitol to be taken in the NHL Draft.
Metcalf and the Capitols return to Madison in August for orientation camp leading up to the new season.
Madison Capitols 2015-16 season tickets and 12-game packages for next season are available now by visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com. Packages can also be purchased by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277).
